Riyaz Jariwalla leads the Litigation and Intellectual Property teams at BPE. With nearly 20 years of experience, he specialises in complex commercial and company litigation with a strong focus on Intellectual Property and AI law.

Riyaz’s extensive industry knowledge spans the IT and digital industries, including software and video gaming, digital assets, cryptocurrencies, UAV technology, and telecommunication, enabling him to offer significant value to clients by understanding their business, risks, and objectives comprehensively. His reputation as a highly skilled IP litigator is complemented by his extensive commercial litigation experience.

Riyaz has substantial experience advising on both contentious and non-contentious IP matters. Whilst he specialises in litigation, Riyaz also has a wealth of expertise in advising client in relation to protection, exploitation, and enforcement of all intellectual property rights, including trademarks, designs, patents, copyright, confidential information, know-how, and trade secrets.

Riyaz is known as an expert relating to trademark infringement, passing off, domain name recovery, and defamation, particularly on social media. He regularly represents clients in the courts of England & Wales, including the specialist Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, together with actions at the UK Intellectual Property Office. Riyaz also handles cross-border and multi-jurisdictional infringement cases, engaging with foreign counsels, courts and IP Offices.

Riyaz is an accredited mediator, recognised by the UK Intellectual Property Office as an approved mediator for IP disputes. He is also an active member of the Intellectual Property Lawyers Association and the International Trademark Association. He frequently speaks and writes on emerging IP topics, including artificial intelligence, 3D printing, drones and blockchain technology.
