Spotlight on BPEs Commercial Property Team Celebrating International Women's Day 2023

In 1888 Eliza Orme became the first woman to achieve a law degree in England at University College London. A little over thirty years later in 1919 the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 was passed, allowing women to enter the legal profession. In 1962 Dame Elizabeth Lane was appointed first female judge in the County Court and the first female High Court Judge in England. Until early 1990 men dominated the legal profession. Now women make up over half of practising solicitors.

On International Women’s Day 2023, we reflect on the work of women not only in the law but in our own workforce. Women make up 70% of our staff in our commercial property team and today we introduce and celebrate those women in commercial property who have a combined total of over 150 years’ experience in the law:

Antonia Shield is our managing partner who has built her career working with notable brands including Superdry, Golden Tulip Hotels, Pure Gym & Wyevale.

Jo Bewley heads up our commercial property team and specialises in the healthcare sector on acquisitions and disposals of care & nursing homes and GP surgery developments as well as acting for specialist banking teams.

Nicky Corner specialises in property investment for the logistics sector working with companies who have large property portfolios accumulating the £20 million bracket or more.
