BPE Solicitors advises Dodo Pubs Co on a 20-year lease of The White House from Brasenose College

The team at BPE, led by partner Doug Armstrong, has assisted Dodo Pub Co with the acquisition of its latest project – The (Grade II Listed) White House in Oxford. Dodo Pub Co now has nine community focussed pubs in its growing portfolio (including The Bottle of Sauce in Cheltenham and The Rusty Bicycle in Oxford), each offering a quirky yet welcoming style.

Oxford-based Tap Social Movement, whose mission is to create inclusive community hospitality venues to help turn lives around for prisoners and prison leavers, opened the pub three years ago. Dodo has confirmed it will remain committed to the Tap Social ethos of social inclusion, building upon what Tap Social already achieved at this location.

The White House is to be renamed The Slow and Steady - after its architect, Henry Hare. It will reopen on Abingdon Road in Oxford, in September 2024, after a full interior and exterior revamp.

Dodo’s new Landlord, Brasenose College, is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford.

Commenting on the latest transaction for Dodo, Doug said: “We were delighted to assist the team at Dodo with their latest acquisition. Chris, Leo and the team have a great track record for developing award winning venues and we can’t wait to sample the latest addition to their group of neighbourhood pubs!”.
