BPE CIPD annual Employment Law seminar returns in person this October

After over a year of virtual events, we’re delighted to announce that the annual Employment Law update hosted by the CIPD and BPE Solicitors will be taking place face to face next month.

A regular fixture in the calendar of HR professionals across the county, this event will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Tuesday 19th October and will be a morning jam packed with updates, analysis of recent cases and the opportunity to ask your burning legal questions to the panel from BPE Solicitors.

After a welcome and introductions, the event will start with the topic that everyone is talking about, the workplace after COVID.  Sarah Lee will run through what businesses should be thinking about as more people return to the workplace including reassuring teams who have been working remotely for some time, making adjustments to the working environment and dealing with more flexible ways of working and working patterns.

Following on neatly from this, Heyma Holmes will talk about another hot topic, mental health.  Changes to working patterns, the impact of furlough and additional caring responsibilities are just some of the additional pressures which employees have had to deal with recently.  How can you identify if someone needs additional support and what can you do as an employer or as a colleague to help them?

After a break and a chance to network with other attendees, the session will continue with a discussion around discrimination.  Will Carter will look at different types of discrimination from philosophical beliefs to sex and gender discrimination.  He will also look at recent case law relating to discrimination and will touch on topical issues such as whether ‘anti-vaxxers’ can claim discrimination.

The final session, from Chris Aldridge and Steve Conlay, is a roundup of case law from the past year, looking at the key cases HR teams should be aware of as well as some of the more unusual cases which have taken place over the past twelve months.

The event will finish with a Q&A session giving attendees the opportunity to ask their burning employment law questions to members of the BPE team.  Networking will also continue over a light lunch.

With interactive polls throughout the day and plenty of time to network with other attendees, this event is a ‘must attend’ for any HR professionals looking to update their knowledge and to understand how their peers have been managing employment matters during a very difficult year.
