BPE Solicitors’ Property Team helps Pure Gym become the largest gym operator in the UK

BPE Solicitors has been Pure Gym’s property lawyers since the Company opened its first two sites in 2009.  Six years on and 98 sites later, the Commercial Property Team at BPE has supported their client to become the largest gym operator in the UK with the recent takeover of LA Fitness.

During Pure Gym’s takeover of rival keep fit chain, LA Fitness, BPE was instructed to undertake all property legal work for LA Fitness’ 43 sites, excluding those in Scotland and Northern Ireland.  The Commercial Property team had just 48 hours to produce 43 lease reports, over the May bank holiday weekend, prior to Pure Gym’s bid offer.

“We had to work to a very strict timeline,” explained Jo Bewley, a Partner in BPE’s Commercial Property Team.  “Fortunately we have a large team here and it was all hands to the pump to ensure we could meet our client’s deadline. Overall demand for affordable, high quality, no contract fitness centres is continuing to grow and we look forward to supporting Pure Gym with their expansion plans in 2015 and beyond.”

The growth story of Leeds based, Pure Gym has been phenomenal with 98 sites opened within the first 6 years of trading.  The growth pattern looks set to continue with another 30 more gyms planned for 2015 in addition to the 43 clubs acquired from LA Fitness.
