BPE Remembers WW1
Cheltenham based law firm BPE Solicitors is sponsoring a community project which aims to engage Gloucestershire in its WW1 heritage, through collections, archives and the arts.
The ‘Gloucestershire Remembers World War 1’ project officially launches on 30th July with a reception at The Everyman Theatre, followed by a performance of Will Harvey’s War, a play based on an unpublished manuscript of FW Harvey’s, a Gloucestershire WW1 poet.
Fiona Spiers, Fundraiser at The Everyman Theatre, which is leading the partnership project, commented, “The aim of Gloucestershire Remembers WW1 is to give people within the community the tools to develop and deliver their own activities and to share their findings about the war in Gloucestershire with others. This could be through an event or via social media. As a prominent business in Cheltenham, it’s great to have BPE on board as a sponsor and we are really grateful for their support.”
Events will be held throughout 2014 and 2015, including an exhibition of WW1 material at The Wilson in Cheltenham, a Local History Day at Pates Grammar School and a performance by students from the National Star College.
John Workman, Senior Partner at BPE commented, “BPE is proud to be involved in this initiative to engage the community of Gloucestershire in their WW1 heritage. The first wold war ended one era and started the one we live in. We are all affected by it now, and the sacrifice and courage of our own families all those years ago must not be allowed to fade away entirely.”
