Sadly, domestic abuse impacts many separations, with a significant percentage of child arrangement cases involving allegations of abuse. Our Family team can provide support for you if you have been a victim of domestic abuse and advise you on steps you can take to protect yourself and your family. This includes signposting access to legal aid, where applicable, and guidance on obtaining protective orders.

The domestic abuse act

The Domestic Abuse Act, introduced in 2021, expands protections addressing not only physical abuse but also emotional, coercive, and financial abuse. This Act offers victims immediate safeguards and with the measures in place and the assistance of a member of our team, we can help you get the appropriate safeguards in place to protect you and your children.

Court orders

Court orders are available to protect individuals from abusers. Non-Molestation Orders shield you and your children from family members or former partners, and Occupation Orders dictate who can reside in or near the family home.

We support you through the process of obtaining these protections and provide guidance on safeguarding your family.
