Today is the start of Family Mediation Week, which is a week dedicated to raising awareness of Family Mediation and the benefits it offers to separating couples. A series of events is taking place, open not only to mediators, lawyers and other professionals working with families and within the family justice system, but also the general public, in an attempt to reach as many people as possible. Information will be given about how the process works, how it supports couples and how it ensures children’s voices are heard within mediation.
BPE’s own Family Mediator, Helen Cankett says:-
“Family Mediation can be an incredibly supportive process for separating couples, providing them with a safe environment to discuss the difficult topics which inevitably arise when a relationship breaks down. As a Family Mediator, I facilitate the discussion, remaining impartial but providing a significant amount of information about the law and the options open to the couple to give them the opportunity to find a resolution which avoids the need for court proceedings.”
